About

The National Family Arts Festival

The Family Arts Festival is the first UK-wide festival of art events which are designed with families in mind. It is part of the Family Arts Campaign supported using public funding by Arts Council England, with the aim to develop the range of arts events and activities available to families – the quality as well as the overall experience.

The Campaign is the initiative of 8 organisations: The Association of British Orchestras, Dance UK, the Independent Theatre Council, The Society of London Theatre, UK Theatre, Contemporary Visual Arts Network, Family and Childcare Trust and The Audience Agency.

The first Family Arts Festival took place in October 2013, and so far each festival has entertained tens of thousands of families across the UK with its ambitious and diverse programme.

Salford and Trafford Network

The Salford and Trafford network has been growing each year and captivating more and more families across the region, just see how far we have come:

In 2013 The Lowry began to form a network or organisations in the surrounding area to create the local branch of this national festival. These initial partners included Quays Culture, Ordsall hall, Salford Community Leisure, Salford Museum and Art Gallery, Manchester United Museum, The Imperial War Museum North, Manchester Theatres, Metrolink and Smooth radio. These partners created a week of events with families in mind in October 2013 enthralling and delighting families across the area.

In 2014 we added Salford Red Devils, MediaCityUK, Sealife Manchester, Legoland Discovery Centre Manchester, The Lowry Outlet mall, BBC and ITV to our mix and once again hosted a week of events all designed with families in mind. The 2014 event was capped with the ‘Big Family Play Date’ on Sat 1 November where all of our partners packed-up and popped-up somewhere unexpected. With Muppets, puppets, bands, Lego creations and sea monsters there were treats and delights for everyone all across the network!
